What’s the difference between evaporation boat type and induction type roll to roll vacuum metallizing machine?
Roll to roll (R2R) Vacuum Metallizing Machines are widely used for depositing an extremely thin metal film on substrates. Two common evaporation methods in such machines are induction heating type and boat resistive heating type. While both aim to vaporize metal for deposition, their differences are significant.
1. Heating Mechanism
Boat type vacuum metallizing machines rely on resistive heating. A refractory metal boat (e.g., Boron Nitride, molybdenum) holds the coating metal, and an electric current passes through the boat to generate heat, then the metal melts, vaporizes and condenses onto the substrate.
In contrast, induction type vacuum metallizing machines use electromagnetic induction. An alternating current in a coil creates eddy currents within a conductive crucible, enabling non-contact heating.
2. Material Compatibility
Boat type vacuum metallizing machines face limitations due to boat-material interactions. High-melting-point metals may react with the boat, causing contamination or short lifetimes.
In contrast, induction type vacuum metallizing machines avoid direct contact between the crucible and metal, reducing contamination risks. It is better suited for high-purity applications or metal with extreme melting points.
